The Porsche 550 and 550A
By Dom Miliano
When it came out, many automotive writers were falling over themselves trying to be the first to show pictures and write stories about Porsche's new Boxster. But I always like to look back to see where inspiration comes from so let me put things into historic perspective by taking a look at the 1950's Porsche Spyders that serve as its…

Unlike today's automotive designs, where aerodynamics dictates the look of a racer, thirty years ago a car's shape was more a reflection of the builder's instincts than anything else. Back then, fast cars had swoopy metal fenders, ignitions with points, Italian carburetors and treaded tires that were closer in…

Just wanted to see if anyone knows the whereabouts of my father's ( Robert Domito) Kurtis he raced in 1953-54 at southern cal events.
This one was distinguished by the beautiful flowing fenders done by a shop in San Francisco that replaced the bicycle fenders. I believe it also had a Chrysler V8 at the time.
Any clues or hints would be appreciated.

I often say, flippantly, that the industry is just now starting to master the technologies of a century ago. That’s been more an impression than a statement of fact; I recall seeing many things in early publications and thinking, “Wow, I had no…
