Bill,

I just watched your video! Needless to say I really think you are on to something! In fact, I've been talking to some people about doing EXACTLY what you're talking about in this video for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix.

Rather than re-type alot of things I have already written I thought I should just paste a couple of things so you know what I'm thinking:

"Last fall I was asked to become Marque of the Year chairman for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. In 2008 we are hosting all of the Italian Motorcar Manufacturers: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, etc.

Because it's a Charity event, we don't buy advertising and as a consequence we don't get television coverage.

it occurred to me that CMU has some pretty cutting edge technologies with regard to the internet and potentially live broadcast of the race with some cameras. You had mentioned that many of the professors are on the look out for new innovative projects so I thought I would contact you to see if anyone who was looking for a career in sports media might want to tackle the task of filming and producing a live webcast of a race, in car cam's, the whole lot.. I'm not sure if it has ever been done but I think it would be a heck of a thing to put on a resume.

It could almost be a recurring learning experience each year. I was not sure whom to contact of if this was something that might stimulate some "out of the box" ideas. let me know when you get a moment. There is some video on the website www.pvgp.org under the RECENT NEWS section on the main page."
and another:
"I'm not sure how much you know about the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, but, in a nutshell, for the past 25 years classic open wheel race cars from the 1920's through the 1960's have competed on the only street course in North America to raise funds for our Charity: The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School. On race weekend we get about 210,000 attendees to Schenley Park to see the races and the various car shows which range from British Cars, Mercedes, Mini, Porshe, Jaguar, et al. In 2008 our "Marque of the Year" (MOY) is Italian Cars and we have invited Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat, as well as many others. We're expecting a great turnout!

We have a variety of tents set up for Vendors and sponsors. I am the Chair for the Marque of the Year area and hence the tent and festivities related to all of our MOY participants. We're planning on a tentative schedule that starts Friday Night with a driver's reception for all MOY participants followed by an early Saturday morning to watch the Qualifing for the F1 race in Hockenheim. We will be serving lunch for the MOY participants and it looks like we will have as our guest speaker D*** Merritt who is the founder of the Ferrari Club of America and the author of the first book on Ferrari cars, his schedule permitting.

From a "bigger picture" standpoint we are looking for more sponsors.... Especially as we are considering hosting a judged car show akin to Pebble Beach or Amelia Island for our 2009 event. This year Brooks Brothers is coming on as a Sponsor and Ford is putting up a massive outdoor show that could not fit at the Pittsburgh Auto Show. The Air Force is doing a flyover this year and we've been in contact with some WWI vintage planes to do the same.

We're inviting some key corporate CEO's from the local area as well as regionally and nationally to come and check out the show as VIP's in 2008 in hopes of getting the race and events on broadcast tv for both niche shows and the race.

On the flip side of the Vintage Stuff we got some cutting edge technology showcasing at the MOY tent including a laser camera than can generate a CAD file from a scan with .00002" accuracy.

Again, I can't emphasize enough that we are open to any "out of the box" thinking you have on our event."

Here's an excerpt of an email I sent back in December that can explain the ratio
