Hi Bob. I was lucky enough to attend races at Riverside starting in 1963. My fist race was the Motor Trend 500 when I was in Cub Scouts. My parents were volunteers at the track, we spent many a fine day there. I have programs starting in 1964 up until the track closed. My programs from Laguna Seca start with Historics in 1974 and include some from when I moved up here in 1981. Also a collection of Pebble Beach Concours programs from 1974 until 1999. Thanks for the comment.
Bob.
From your Stockton programs can you tell me what year Carroll Shelby was there in Edgar's 4.9 litre 410 Ferrari? Also what years did Schell Qvalle's Lister Jag run and the Huffaker Knopp Chevy Special? Who knows on my spelling? How about photographing the covers and posting them on your site? Sorry I did not mean to fill up all your spar time for the next few weeks. Dennis
Bob.
Sorry I missed you guys yesterday. saturday Thunderhill was 96dg and not a tree for miles. Sunday must have been in the low 90 at the concours. I left about 11am as soon as I had enough photos. Maybe the wine country? Dennis
Bob.
I'll look for you at the Wine Country event. This weekend besides the Thunderhill event I will be back for the Marin/Sonoma Concours d'Elegance on Sunday. I have been told to expect a nice turnout of vintage race machinery. Maybe we can meet up there. Good luck and looking forward to meeting you. dennis
Bob. I have a few images of Tom's "used" GTO after he rearranged the front lft fender. I missed getting any of Peter Gidding's Lusso after he parked it into the tires at 7 or maybe 8. He certainly rearranged the left side of the Lusso. Will you be at Thunderhill this weekend?
Hi Bob...yes...I answered your email but it may not have gotten transmitted. I'm on a government computer system that does weird things. The interesting thing about that is that to my knowledge Dad never ran Laguna Seca...?? The only Triumph he drove in 1958 was the factory team car at Sebring. He DNF'd in '58 but won the class (GT-2) in '57 driving 11 hours and 6 minutes of the race...!! He was teamed with Ed Pennybacker...
Bob, I used to race at Sears with CSRG, but I quit them in 2003. Too much political BS with that organization. I race Thunder Hill with HSR-West but we are not going there this year. I also race with HMSA but can't make it to T Hill this year with them. Do you ever come up to Reno Fernley Raceway? Fantastic track, if a little primative, but then it was built by the owners with their own money, not some casino giving them 50 mill and asking them to build it. I'll be out there first weekend of MAy with HMSA. Hope to see you there.
Carl
Hi Bob, Carl McLelland here. I'm one of Bill Okers oldest racing friends. We go back to the early 60's racing bicycles. BTW, don't know why it's up there, but that's me in the photo waving, in my Lotus 61 on the grid at Phoenix Intl two years ago. I "badgered" Bill into getting that Mk9 Titan, then restored it for him four years ago, so he and I have gone 'full circle' in our racing lives. He IS a formidable opponent, and a prime example of what historic racing is all about. He even had the 'nerve' to beat me in his first historic race!
Hi Bob, You bet...I'm 63 now. I remember going to Pebble Beach the year that Ernie McAfee hit that tree. The other thing I remember is the poison ivy...!! I didn't go to Cotati. There was a 6 hour enduro held there in 57 (I think) that Dad teamed with Bob Drake and won outright 1st overall in the Joe Lubin DB3S. Dad also drove the AC at Sacremento in 1956 and set off quite a revolt over the legality of the car to run in the production class. He blew away everybody including 300SL Mercedes and the Vetts...they weren't happy...!!
Hi Bob,
Dad drove mostly in Southern Cal in the 1950's. He's most known for racing a Morgan and an AC Bristol for Ed Savin and then a DB3S and a DBR2 Aston Martin for Joe Lubin. He also drove several Ferrari's...most well known being the 4.9 liter Arciero car...same car the Gurney drove. He did drive at Sacremento and Cotati a few times...at at Pebble Beach...that's about as far north as I remember.
Take care...Bill
