Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Posters & History

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to hold a world-class vintage automotive event for charity. It is the region's premier summer event for hundreds of thousands of automotive enthusiasts in that it combines charitable fundraising with car shows and vintage sports car racing on city streets.

The PVGP has always been known by it's annual posters created each summer for the event...so we thought that would be the best way to tell the story. Each poster captures the beauty and excitement of our event. We have been fortunate enough to have the artwork donated each year by local Pittsburgh and national artists.

The first event was the brainchild of Art McGovern and Mary Beth Gmitter who, in 1982, met with Myron Cope of WTAE TV, Dan Torisky of The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Rege Champ of AVS. Following the meeting, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association was founded and designated a nonprofit organization incorporated for the express purpose of sponsoring the race. Others involved in this brainchild were racer D*** Scott, SCCA Board of Directors Member Tony Phelps, and Alcoa Marketing Manager D*** Jevon. They, along with many other volunteers to follow, set out to run the first vintage race in Schenley Park, made available for the event by Pittsburgh Mayor Richard Caliguiri.

Each of these posters are available to purchase at the PVGP online at www.pvgp.org/store
