The Horsepower for History Concours d’Elegance will feature the best European and American cars of the last 100 years. You are just as likely to see new exotic cars like Ferrari and Aston Martin as you are to see the classics form the 1920-30’s like Auburn and Cadillac.
The idea behind this event is simple. It uses people's love for these cars and the cultures they came from, so we may take a second look at our American history. The event will help stir historic preservation awareness and benefit the preforming arts. All effort is voluntary and all proceeds will benefit the "Ritz Theatre" (non-profit 501c3).
The event will have more interest than just what caters to the "car guy". Enjoy a summer evening in the park with a music, Italian food, homemade ice cream and root beer, new Mercedes display, museum displays, historic demonstrations, WWII flyovers, etc. You may expect to see the only surviving 1917 Tiffin Economy Car as well as demonstrations on a newly restored 1886 high-wheel bicycle, and the Tiffin glass museum will be out to display the city’s fine glass heritage. At the end of the concours, a police escort will lead the show cars to The Ritz Theatre where the street will be closed off to outside traffic. At 7:30 everyone who both brought a show car and who went to the concours as a spectator will be treated to a private screening of the 1971 movie "LeMans" starring Steve McQueen! The concession stands will be open as well and you will enjoy the beautiful theatre as it is restored to the same glory that it opened with in 1928.
August 23th will be the driving tour for special cars. We will meet in the morning on Sunday at the Seneca County Museum for a private tour and a light breakfast. The tour will depart via police escort out of town and on to some fantastic country roads. On the journey, there will be a break at an 1800’s Indian Mill, and we will cross a covered bridge on our way to end up at Seneca Hill Golf Course for lunch in the historic banquet room. The tour will also visit the Seneca County airport for a private tour of their restoration facilities, prop shop, and vintage aircraft.
