The engine in this car is a Mark 1, 1071cc Cooper S with a very competitive history in club racing in Ontario in the late '60's and early '70's. I've had the engine for roughly 35 years the last thirty of which it sat in the basement waiting for a new car. The engine was rebuilt in 2006, requiring a re-bore (+ 60 thou) and re-cammed with a 731 road rally spec replacing the full race 649 cam. The head is ported and polished and roller-tip rockers replace the originals. ARP fasterns are used in the engine and headbolts. A pair of the old H4 SU's provide the carburation.
Although it lacks the torque of the longer stroke 1275 Cooper S, its over-square design allows it to rev beautifully to a 7500 rpm (self imposed). With this cam and the SCCR gearbox, it is a joy to listen to (which is good 'cause its very loud).
