Profile Information

About Me:
I got into rcing very late in life. Now I am hooked. Raced SCCA (ITB) in a BMW 2002 and NASA (Camaro-Mustang Challenge) on tracks in California in a '93 Camaro. Endurance races/stage rallies: La Carrera Panamericana since 1999, Border Challenge and Chihuahua Express, 2003-2009. Plan on Pike's Peak in 2010.

North American Coordinator for Carrera and Express.
What car(s) do you own?
'63 Chevy II Nova four-door sedan rally car (the anti-race car race car)
'93 Camaro Z28 track car
'03 Corvette Z06 time trial car (supercharged)
What do you like to do (e.g. vintage race with...)?
Stage rally in Mexico for a week with La Carrera or a long weekend with the Chihuahua Express. After that experience, racing on a track is sorta dull.

I also like to lead a convoy from Texas down to both races.
What clubs do you belong to?
National Auto Sports Association, Fraternity of La Carrera Panamericana
What would you like to do (e.g. go to race school; get into Vintage Racing)?
Jim Russell
Location
677 Highland ave.

La Carrera 2009 -- Postscrip

The '09 La Carrera Panamericana was sell out for the second year in a row with 107 entries. Given the world's economy, that was something of a surprise.

The race was a little more newsworthy because the brother of the president of Mexico participated in a vintage Alfa, and the owners of the big Mexican TV company, Televisa, were also competitors. Another entry of note was the "Leningrad Cowboys," a rock band from Finland, that was apparently retracing the steps of Pink Floyd, who… Continue

2008 Carrera -- Original Pan Am

Posted on August 31, 2008 at 11:52am 1 Comment

This year we can toast the Original Pan Am class. Just a few years ago OPA almost disappeared, but it has slowly returned and this year has reached fifteen cars. Wonderful!

It's an extremely diverse class, too. Theere's a 356 Porsche listed, along with a 190D Mercedes that plans to run the event on bio-fuel (McDonald's old french fry grease).

Carson Scheller in his strong '54 Ford Vicky is returning to defend his championship, and you can be sure than Rich Morrision,… Continue

Gerie,

Thanks for gathering your La Carrara guys and joining us for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. I'm sorry you ran into trouble with getting you mechanic issues sorted in time for the race. After all of your hard work helping get this event off the ground it was a shame to see you sidelined.

I started a Blog on this site for Pikes Peak comments if you're interested in sharing your thoughts on the event. There is also a link to an extensive photo album from the full week.

Thanks for joining us and we look forward to seeing you there again next year!
