Phil Currin's 1963 Corvette & 1972 IMSA GTO Champion

During the 1972 IMSA Camel GTO Championship this 1963 Corvette split-window coupe was already nine years old but it beat Corvettes driven by John Greenwood, Tony DeLorenzo, Dave Heinz and others to win that year. Driven by Phil Currin the car became known as the "Giantkiller" and Currin got the nickname "Fast Phil." The newer Corvette drivers were not happy being beaten by an antique and they put pressure on IMSA founder John Bishop to do something. He essentially told Currin either get a newer car or he would not be allowed to race in IMSA. So, he bought a newer Corvette but still has this red beauty today.
