I think this is Road Atlanta. I was there with Tom Spalding's team. I had met Bill Freeman years before in Santa Barbara. I was with George Dyer's Porsche team when he won Sebring and Paul and Bill were pitted in the next stall. Because I was with Dyer's team I was the only photographer that had free run of the those two pits. The local cops kept every one else out to protect Paul.

Great Shot! I recognized the helmet immediately. I actually worked with the marketing department that secured the Budweiser sponsorship for Newman-Freeman Racing a year or two prior to this car. In fact, I've got some of the first shots of the older Lola prior to any of the sponsor logos. It was down in an industrial area of Belmont prior to the Laguna race. We shot it from all angles so that the potential sponsor logos could be airbrushed in. The first "target" was a soft drink manufacturer (who also used red). They turned us down. We were bummed and sitting around the marketing department wondering who else used red when one of the guys went to the fridge and pulled out a can of Bud. It hit us all at the same time - except for the guy standing there with the can in his hand!
