I think about that a lot. I feel kind of sensitive about it because of the pictures but the challenge for a photographer is to capture the moment. I derive great satisfaction from being able to see potential incidents developing and/or being quick enough to get the shot. Also, I must say that looking through the viewfinder does seem to separate the photographer from the reality of what may be happening. Bob.
