Ordered by James Dean, who intended fitting an Offenhauser engine, the Lotus's late arrival meant he bought the Porsche that he was killed in. Subsequently bought and raced by John Timanus it was fitted with MG T-type and Coventry Climax engines and the body was slowly destroyed. The car is being rebuilt as Dean intended with the streamlined bodywork and an Offenhauser midget engine.
