Canepa Design

Bruce Canepa
Bruce Canepa has been fascinated with automobiles, motorcycles, and trucks since his childhood. Born and raised in Santa Cruz California, he grew up building model cars and racing Dirt Bikes and Go Karts. By age twelve, his father had taught him how to drive almost everything; from his first car, a 1929 “Model A” Ford, to a “ten wheel” diesel truck. He worked in the family dealership every spare moment, learning mechanical, fabrication, body and paint. Today he is passionately involved in all aspects of his companies; Canepa Design and Concept Transporters, from vehicle design and development to historical/collector car restoration and racing.

Bruce grew up as the typical California kid; into Hot Rods, Sports Cars, and racing. As with everything in his life, he grew up “flat out”. He started racing as soon as the rules allowed, first in Quarter Midgets and Go Karts, then in Super Modifieds and Sprint Cars. In addition to numerous wins in all types of racing cars, he was awarded consecutive “Rookie of the Year” and “Most Improved Driver” in three different race categories. In 1978 he ventured into Sports Car racing, IMSA and Trans Am. He finished third overall with co-drivers Rick Mears and Monte Shelton in his first Daytona 24 hour effort. Porsche AG provided him a new factory 935 for the ’79 season, and in 1980-81 he co-drove with Gianpiero Moretti in the famous MOMO team Porsche 935. In 1982 he was back at the Daytona 24 hour co-driving with Bobby Rahal and Jim Trueman in the first MARCH GTP “Ground Effects” Prototype. Up for any challenge, he competed at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, qualifying first and finishing second overall in 1981 in a Porsche Turbo powered open wheeler. He revisited the mountain nineteen years later, setting the course record for Big Rigs in 2000, 2001, and 2002; a record that still stands today.

Currently, he continues to race Historic events including; Trans Am, IMSA, F1, Can Am, etc. This summer he will team up with So-Cal Speed Shop and GM Performance for a new challenge; breaking the G/Blown Fuel Competition Coupe land speed record at Bonneville in the Chevrolet HHR, a vehicle capable of speeds in excess of 250 mile per hour.

Bruce’s companies, Canepa Design and Concept Transporters have been at the cutting edge of their industries for over 20 years. Bruce is very much a hands-on CEO; combining his business acumen with the highest attention to detail to create vehicles of stunning quality, performance, and style.

Canepa Design provides exceptional automobiles to collectors worldwide in addition to creating personalized European and American sports and luxury cars, Hot Rods, SUVs, and motorcycles. The company works closely with major corporations such as Kenworth, Peterbilt, GM, Ford, and Bridgestone on concept, prototype, and production vehicles, while providing complete restoration of collector quality automobiles, vintage racecar preparation, and track support services to individual enthusiasts. Canepa Design is known world wide for expertly combining sophisticated design and advanced technology, with superb craftsmanship in all its vehicles.

Concept Transporters is the industry leader in “state-of-the-art” enclosed vehicle transporters, mobile showrooms, hospitality suites, and mobile emergency command centers. The company designed the industry’s first aerodynamically streamlined big trucks (Kenworth) in 1983 revolutionizing big truck design and boosting fuel mileage and driver efficiency. Concept creates many different types of transport vehicles depending on the customer’s specific needs. Each project is designed from the ground up creating transporters that are perfectly suited for their intended use.
