TheVRL News Brief

The McLaren 750S coupe makes time and space disappear

It was the sound that got me. There's a point when the turbos really start to spool up and it feels like something is happening on its own, like the revs are in some kind of feedback loop, building on itself, and what's really an amiable burble around town becomes the piercing racecar shriek of a small-displacement V-8 making irrational power.

Event founder Chris Pook envisioned the Grand Prix of Long Beach as a mini-Monaco — a race and a party on a seaside circuit that would spotlight the roar of engines and the scenery of southern California. It all started in 1975, Pook putting together a Formula 5000 race for the opener.

F1 explains: The incredible technology behind braking systems — and how drivers cope with the huge G-forces

Wild Rover — 1966 Rover P6

Making its debut in 1963, the Rover P6 was introduced as the new jewel in the crown of the Rover fleet. The car was voted European Car of the Year in 1964 and it revelled in the glow of Britain's last true motor manufacturing era. By the time the P6 reached the end of its shelf life in 1977, Britain's motor car industry was in a spiral of decline from which it would never recover. (Image : Sports Car Digest)

A two page list of cleanup and fixup projects mostly complete, scrubbing the floor will finish that off. I got the social media stuff back on track. I assigned someone to direct the creation of our new website. I am quite optimistic about the coming season. …
