It's Car Nuts like us who can make the difference

Amigos, I'm starting this blog because it's time to speak up and help the Great American Automobile and it's heritage. Here in Michigan it's a time of unprecedented challenges, but I'm sure we will sort the headwinds. It is so important that Washington approves the loans to the Automotive Industry since so many people and such a big part of the economy of the US and the World at large depends on it. The American Automotive Industry has taken a lot of actions to make sure we remain competitive… Continue

Getting it back together

I have started to put my own Abarth Berlina Corsa replica back together. It was last overhauled/painted in 1992, so it was about time.

Initially the car was stripped on the interior, engine and luggage compartments. After welding up the holes from 10 years of competition it was dispatched to the body shop for a much needed coat of paint.

The first job at hand was to fit the tank… Continue

New Zealand Motor Sport Painter

Laurence Brownlie is very well known in New Zealand motorsport. An extremely talented driver from way back, Laurence is now producing remarkable paintings from his home studio in New Zealand. The motor-racing paintings simply leap out at you, true-to-life and painted with such an intimate understanding, passion and knowledge of the sport that the effect is palpable to any true enthusiast.

The overwhelmingly positive response to these paintings has encouraged Laurence to make them… Continue

Vee dreams have been passed-on...for now

At the October 08 event at Hallett, I delivered my vee to a new owner. Due to a divorce (mine, unfortunately) I knew there was no way the vee was just going to sit still for some time to come...so it really needed to go somewhere that it would be used. It is now in the capable hands of the Bigger Hammer folks - they will be getting it race ready for the new owner. I will certainly not be a stranger, however, as long as Corinthians keeps coming to Hallett. And someday, I'm sure I'll be back in a… Continue

Jaguar ‘E2A’ is sold at Bonhams - The missing link prototype.

Regulation changes, which included a displacement limit of 3.0L, rendered the Jaguar D-Type virtually obsolete for the '58 season. By then the iconic Jaguar had won Le Mans 3 times in a row. The Works team had already w/drawn from active racing at the end of '56, having clinched the important Le Mans race 4 times in the last 6 attempts. In '57 privateer teams like Ecurie Ecosse & Briggs Cunningham continued to race the D-Type, w/the former adding a 3rd victory to the machine's tally. Some… Continue

2008 Carrera -- Original Pan Am

This year we can toast the Original Pan Am class. Just a few years ago OPA almost disappeared, but it has slowly returned and this year has reached fifteen cars. Wonderful!

It's an extremely diverse class, too. Theere's a 356 Porsche listed, along with a 190D Mercedes that plans to run the event on bio-fuel (McDonald's old french fry grease).

Carson Scheller in his strong '54 Ford Vicky is returning to defend his championship, and you can be sure than Rich Morrision,… Continue

Weekend Racing at H2H

I thought I would share this with the group.

I ran a non-traditional autocross at a new driving facility just outside San Marcos, Tx called Harris Hill Road. (H2R) The facility is sort of a “no-racing” race track with a club-like membership program that allows members to enjoy lapping sessions during the week and on weekends. I believe the track will be made available for non-competitive club events and lap days. (http://harrishillroad.com/)

The track is well laid out and… Continue
