Hi! I am giving my comments from the German point of view, respectively the European markets, however, two things have the worldwide classic markets in common: a, you have to differentiate between enthusiast owners and the people, who invested resp. speculated in/with classics and b, there are always multiple "sub-market". What do I mean with "sub-markets"? All national or continental classics-markets are devided into a couple of different segments, who all have their different ups and downs. The exclusive vehicles are traded completely different from the massproduction or the "average" luxury-marque.
And a top automobile has a different audience than a project, etc.. With all the crisis talk I am optimistic in general, because I know, that money never is lost - it only changed hands (unless it was burned or shreddered.... :-). And that means some people lost a lot, but this money is in others vaults. And there it would be senseless, if one doen't invest or consume. Hence my believe rather sooner than later it gets back into circulation - in one way or the other. And that means the markets for classics, art, boats and the like will get their fare share again. For the time being people operate more wisely and some, who have to, bring their carson the market, so it appears we have more a buyer's market. That helps to bring those "thru the roof"-prices down again and all objects will achieve their realistic and true value. Enthusiasts will always invest a huge part of their dispossable income into what they love. And don't forget: if a recession of 6% would be bad - we still would be on the level of 2005! So I conclude: the markets cool down, but will neither collaps, nor implode, but will seperate the pretenders from the real good ones! Let's enjoy what we love - keep on racing!

Thanks Guy,

There's a great collection of cars there. As a former Abarth owner, it's great to see so many of Carlo's little gems being taken care of in one place.
All the best,

Happy New Year from Vintage Racecar! The New Year is barely a week or two old, but there's lots going on in the historic racing world. Here's a sampling of some of the new content and news you'll find at VintageRacecar.com

Andretti Honored by the Simeone
Mario Andretti was presented with the first annual Spirit of Competition Award at dedication ceremonies for the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia on November 12. The dedication ceremony was presided over by Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter, and Andretti's award was presented by former Philadelphia Eagles head coach D*** Vermeil, whose father once raced sprint cars in Northern California.

Legends of Riverside Film Festival
This March 27-29 the Riverside International Raceway Museum will host a commemorative event, Legends of Riverside, to honor all that went on at the historic So. Cal. track. Joining forces with Dave Wolin's Automotive Film Festival, the museum will present a weekend filled with memories from the circuit including numerous screenings of racing films, a tribute to Paul Newman, several panel discussions featuring well-known racers, and a silent auction of related memorabilia, art, and photography.

Clark's Lotus Fetches 1.5 Million
Despite an uncooperative economy, Australia's Bonham's & Goodman recently sold the famed Dawson-Damer Lotus collection and achieved numerous records in the process. Surely the top lot of the collection was the ex-Jim Clark Lotus 25, and with such provenance there was predictably spirited bidding from connections in Europe, the United States, and Japan, but a new world record winning bid for any Lotus car of Aus$1.525 million came from an Australian bidder
