Louis Chenot’s 1/6-scale Duesenberg to headline first Model Motorcars at Amelia Island

Written by , Hemmings

You’ve no doubt seen photos of Louis Chenot’s handcrafted 1/6-scale Duesenberg Model SJ phaeton floating around the internet since Jim Donnelly first wrote about it and the prestigious Metalworking Craftsman of the Decade award presented to Chenot last year. The jewel of a model – complete with working engine – has perhaps become more well-known than the full-scale Duesenbergs that Chenot based his on. Attendees of this year’s Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance will get a rare chance to see the Duesenberg in person as it takes part in the first-ever Model Motorcars at Amelia Island, a concours-within-a-concours for jewels like Chenot’s.

Conceived of by some of the same people who have filled the model car tent at the Glenmoor Gathering the last three years,  Model Motorcars at Amelia Island will assemble 30 to 40 of the finest large-scale (1/12-scale or larger) automobile replicas in the world, in both display and judged classes, according to the organizers. “Antique, Classic, Vintage, Muscle and Modern sport car models are welcome to be part of the event. There will be models on display that are curb-side replicas (no engine) and others that feature fully detailed engines, suspensions and interiors. Our guiding principle for this premier event will be to present a scale model competition of elegance that lives up to the world-class standard of excellence of the Amelia Island Concours with which we will share the show field.”

As with the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Model Motorcars at Amelia Island will take place March 11. For more information, visit ModelMotorCars.com.
